In the 4th Community Meeting, LPSD happily welcomed new representatives from Tam Hung community of Hai Phong; new communities from Xuan Thien and Quang Phu communes of Thanh Hoa; Un village and local Cu Pe village of Son La.

On the first working day, LPSD and representatives summed up achievements, strengths and identified weaknesses existing in each community after co-working process. It is an opportunity for new representatives to know and understand LPSD’s working methods and association process to figure out solutions for common problems.

After that, LPSD listened to representatives speak about the communities’ thoughts and expectations. Cu Pe villagers hoped that they would be treated fairly on land use issues related to rubber tree planting. The Thuy Nguyen people shared their worries about environmental pollution and respiratory illnesses as they are living near industrial factories. The Cam Tam, Cam Van and Yen Lam people, who were affected by pesticide burial activities of Nicotex Thanh Thai Company, stated that there were some positive news in their case. However, they still felt disappointed since People Committee of Province has not answered  their petitions yet. Finally, representatives from the Xuan Thien and Quang Phu communities said that they expected LPSD to share the right way to defend their interests based on the law and policies of the state.

After the meeting, participants from the different communities became more familiar with one another, and overcame their initial anxiety to listen to others and share about their local issues.

N.H.Tu from Tam Hung community shared: “Before coming here, we did not know about the work of LPSD. However, after listening to the sharing today, I am in total agreement and will collaborate with LPSD to tackle our local problems.
