Summary 2017: Changes by the efforts of the community

At present, LPSD has been working with four main communities, including the Son La hydropower resettlement community; community which is affected by pesticide pollution caused by Nicotex Thanh Thai company (Cam Van, Cam Tam, Yen Lam Commune, Thanh Hoa Province); community which is concerned about land and budget management in Tho Xuan, Thanh Hoa Province; community which is affected by Hai Phong Thermal Power Plant 1 & 2

MEETING WITH EARTHRIGHTS INTERNATIONAL - MAY 2017

Brief news: The receipt of Dispatch No.160/KTHT-TDSL on answering The Law and Policy of Sustainable Development Centre of Cooperatives and Rural Development Department

On 03/04/2017, The Law and Policy of Sustainable Development Centre (LPSD) received Dispatch No.160/KTHT-TDSL from the Cooperatives and Rural Development Department, which is under the purview of Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD). 

News: The people of Cu Pe receive farmland

     In recent times, The Law and Policy of Sustainable Development Research Center (LPSD) has worked with 11 households in the Cu Pe resettlement village, Muong Bon Commune, Mai Son Pistrict, Son La Province to resolve issues such as ensuring a stable life after relocation from the Pa Village, Ca Nang Commune, Quynh Nhai District, Son La Province to facilitate the construction of the Son La hydropower plant.

Environmental Pollution Remediation & Irresponsibility of Local Officers

On 10/1, The Law and Policy of Sustainable Development Center held a meeting for communities affected by pollution from the industrial projects. Representatives from Yen Bai, Son La, Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa communities shared their concerns over the pollution as well as the irresponsibility of the local officers.

Nicotex Thanh Thai pollution case should be handled strictly

On 28th November 2014, a meeting about the Thanh Hoa Provincial Police Report took place between The Law and Policy of Sustainable Development Reasearch Center (LPSD) and community leaders of 3 Communes: Cam Van, Cam Tam (Cam Thuy District) and Yen Lam (Yen Dinh Dictrict) Thanh Hoa Provic which have been affected by Nicotex Thanh Thai company (Nicotex) violations.

The UN Watercourses Convention Enters Into Force

A victory for international water law, but great challenges still loom on the horizon. In a great victory for international water law and transboundary water governance, the 1997 UN Convention on the Law of Non-Navigational Uses of International Watercourses (UNWC) finally entered into force as of August 17, 90 days after receiving its 35th ratifying signature from Vietnam.

New environmental protection law promotes local activism

The new Law on Environmental Protection, currently under discussion by the National Assembly, hopes to incentivise individuals and social organisations to help protect the environment by clarifying the rights of both groups in regard to environmental protection.

Adapting law and governance to Climate change in Vietnam

Through project "Adapting law and governance to Climate change in Vietnam", the LPSD has emphasized and sent the message about how the impacts of climate changes are important in making decisions of leaders.

Re-register and larger operation areas of LPSD

Following Decision 97/2009/QD-TTg and Circular 02/2010/TT-BKHCN on guiding establishment and registration of operation of scientific and technological organization, The Law and Policy of Sustainable Development research Center (LPSD) has re-registered its operations area properly and has been grant certificate with new larger operation areas. From 1st January 2011, the LPSD operates in following areas:

AGREEMENT ON ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION FOR THACH SON ‘CANCER VILLAGE’

On Tuesday, 2nd November, 2010, the LPSD organized workshop at Thach Son village as a environmental dialogue. The workshop aimed to discuss the achieved results from the last workshop  of 9th March 2010 and negotiate the agreement on environmental protection for Thach son "cancer village"
